Department of Government Efficiency Cuts Breakthrough Cincinnati’s Americorp Grant
April 30, 2025
Last Friday, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) terminated approximately $400 million in AmeriCorp grants, affecting more than 1,000 organizations. The termination was sudden, unexpected and without cause. Unfortunately, Breakthrough Cincinnati’s AmeriCorp grant was terminated immediately.
You can read more about this termination from our friends at the Association of State Service Commissions:
ASC Statement on the Termination of AmeriCorps Grants
The impact to Breakthrough Cincinnati is devastating. This funding would have covered expenses related to our Teaching Fellows, including salaries, training, background checks and more. These cuts not only risk the quality of our Teaching Fellow experience, but also jeopardize the experience for over 200 students who are excited to join Breakthrough Cincinnati this summer.
We need your help to maintain our program!
We can’t let our students and Teaching Fellows down. We have trimmed our expenses as much as possible to account for this drastic cut, but those reductions are not enough.
Will you consider a donation today, to help close this gap? It costs $4500 for each of our 68 Teaching Fellows. Every donation will ensure we can pay our aspiring teachers fairly while igniting the potential of our students.
Thank you for ensuring this will be another Breakthrough summer for our teachers and students.
With Gratitude,
Rhonda Starghill
