THE Student Opportunity

Are you a 5th or 6th grader? Would you love to be part of a solid learning community as you transition into high school and college? —BTC could be the place for you.

Breakthrough students are eager to learn. They work hard and are solid ‘B’ students. They are ambitious and want to make their community better.

Breakthrough aims to support students from communities who are historically underrepresented in post-secondary education. Students who ascribe to at least two of the following communities: First Generation College Bound, Single Parent Household, Low-Income, Person of Color, English Language Learner are encouraged to apply. BTC empowers all students to achieve their goals.

At Breakthrough Cincinnati, we believe in the power of young people. Our unique “students teaching students” model will transform any student’s summer learning experiences from boredom to brilliance. The only program of its kind in our region, Breakthrough Cincinnati provides a tuition-free, academically enriching and fun community for rising sixth through ninth graders.

• Join us for several weeks over four consecutive summers to develop long lasting relationships.

• Engage in small classes of eight to ten students during English, math, history and science to build academic and social skills needed to succeed in high school and beyond.

• Choose foreign language and academic electives, life skills and leadership workshops, athletics or the arts to expose yourself to new things.

• Shape your future during community service, career exploration and college-bound activities.

During the school year, students remain invested in their college-bound success. BTC works to support students by offering programming that supports academic, social, and professional growth. We offer Super Saturdays, and monthly leadership events.

School Year Program Experiences

We love witnessing our students, families, and Teaching Fellows’ transformative summer experiences. We aim to sustain and grow the relationships formed and the academic gains made during the summer. BTC offers a variety of School Year Program experiences to keep connections strong. With the help of community partners and local higher education institutions, we bring students together and keep the enrichment alive.

We want students to stay engaged with their positive peer group by attending at least three school year program sessions. Students can select different ways to engage to support their academic, social, leadership, or college/career exploration needs.
